The Safe Start Story

Safe Start has been written and designed by a Camp Director that knows first hand about the need for a comprehensive health and safety training program for all camp staff. After a series of serious incidents occurred at the camp only a few summers ago, the Camp Director was called upon to represent the camp in court over a three week period. While giving testimony and while enduring rigorous cross examination, the camps polices, procedures and training methods were meticulously scrutinized. It was determined that the camp's policies where strong and it was clear to the court that a great amount of emphasis was placed on the training of all staff during orientation. As a result of this life changing experience, it became this Director's desire to increase the health and safety awareness of all camp staff. As a result, Safe Start was created and is now being used across North America by camps that understand that training of this nature must be presented, processed, tested and documented as a means of creating a safe environment while reducing liability.
